Getting Close

With Will's arrival right around the corner, Steve and I are "living large". As large as a full-term preggo woman can at least! Obviously we're super psyched about William joining our life, but we know it will no longer be "just the two of us". This evening we enjoyed our waning freedom by hitting the movies (Eagle Eye).

Tomorrow night though will be the creme de la creme! Steve has wanted to see a concert at Red Rocks for as long as I can remember. I checked the concert schedule for the next couple weeks and noticed that Sigur Ros was going to be passing through this weekend! They haven't been to the states since 2001! I found what I think will be fantastic seats on Craigslist. The woman we bought them from said she had other offers but liked my email which essentially stated that "even if I go into labor, he'll just have to wait..." 

This is the cover of the first Sigur Ros cd I purchased. Oddly enough, I learned of this great band while in a skate shop at Vintage Fair Mall. When I asked someone from the store about the artist, I had to have them write it down for me. I went strait to the Wherehouse and bought this cd.

18 days to go & fall is here!

Last Friday we went to the doctor. Things are progressing! We're 18 days away from our official due date- but realistically, it could be be a couple weeks beyond that. According to measurements during an ultrasound at our appointment, William is approximately six and a half pounds right now and his head measures 9.3 cm- I hope it doesn't get much larger for my sake! I weighed in at 148 (haven't seen that number since a crazy semester in college!). We've completed a birthing class that provided natural and medical methods of managing pain. Overall, I thing we're ready for William's arrival.

Steve snapped a belly shot while we walked Buddy at the creek. I'm still walking Buddy two miles most every day. The consequences of not walking and stretching are pretty brutal- so I have a strong incentive to keep at it. Healthy mom = healthy baby- we hope! I have a tendency to mourn events prior to their actual occurrence. For instance, when my brothers abandoned me for an education in CSU, Fullerton, the entire year before their move, I would note, "this is the last time we'll be able to do ___". After all, it doesn't take a genius to know that growing up, becoming adults and forging the individual life paths God has for us changes childhood traditions.

I'm now doing this with William in my belly by tyring to absorb the final moments of the time we have together just he and I. His movements are fun and it's incredible to know there's this little guy just waiting to join our family! However, getting rid of this belly will be a GIGANTIC blessing! Simple things such as getting out of bed, putting shoes on, shaving my legs and breathing have become impaired which will really motivate me to get back in shape. It's been strange getting larger and it's sometimes frustrating how my new size can get in the way. I've bumped into innocent students with my belly and have to navigate between objects in an entirely new manner. If Will wasn't there to poke and prod me, I'd be going nuts right now!

Getting in shape will be a fun challenge that oddly, I'm looking forward to. Steve and I are excited about jogging together again- it will be so much fun to have William along for the ride too! We're planning on participating in an organized run or two next summer. It's probably overly ambitious, but I'd really like to finish a half marathon as a family.

Other fun ideas we're tossing around include cycling with Will in tow next spring, and this winter, possibly throwing on snow shoes for a hut-to-hut trip in the snowy mountains. We want to get Will out, but we also realize there will be some reality checks along the way:)

On another note...

I love the fact that we live in a geographical place that has definitive seasons.The trees are in full fall swing. Bursts of red and yellow decorate the branches and the weather is perfect! William's birthday will always be adorned with these beautiful colors which for some wild reason brings us great delight. It's absolutely beautiful here!

Celebrate William- Wash Park

This past Sunday afternoon we took the Washington Park for a celebration of new life- William! Mary and Nelisha organized a righteous BBQ. This was such a fun "baby shower" and way to celebrate. I appreciate the way the ladies were open to making this a family event. William may be growing inside my body, but Steve and I are a team and I love it when he's included! There are so many elements that are geared strictly for the pregnant woman; her body is changing and she can bond with this life growing within. Perhaps I'm incorrect in saying this, but I think including the dad is just one more way to make him feel part of the event and changes happening.

The day before and day after provided afternoon thundershowers- we were positively blessed with PERFECT weather! It was BEAUTIFUL!!

Family Tree/Baby Belly

We were going to have an "adventure theme" for William's room, but with our family so far away, we had a brilliant idea- family tree! Now it's still a work in progress as we finish collecting photos, but here's the general idea. Holly side left, Walton side right, aunts/uncles on the bottom with nieces on the ends. The center photo will be a photo of Will with Steve and I.

Tomorrow puts us at 8 months el preggo. Will has been pushing back now when we touch him. Also, instead of feeling his movements at the front of my belly, I feel his movements on my sides. He's been tickling me in the groin too!

July CA Trip!

We took Biscuit for a walk Monday morning. Mom and dad's yard is looking majestic- it's really colorful and lush. Good work mom! I even helped to weed a couple times in the evening. I remember when I was paid maybe a quarter an hour or something crazy when I was a kid! Now I just help for free?!

Girl's Treat!

My friend Monica and I have gone to The Ice Cream Co. for years. While there, we split a "brown and gold"- a pyramid of vanilla ice cream with with hot fudge on one side and caramel on the other side. The nieces and I have indulged in the "girl's treat", but on this occasion, we invited their friends to join in. Perhaps the tradition will live on.

After girl's treat, we went to Pam's Hallmark store. She had parasols for the girls- left over from Erin and Caleb's wedding.  Obviously, they LOVE them!
